A Home Named for the Sea

Some homes are built from memory as much as from materials. Adria is one of them. Designed for a Canadian family with Croatian roots, it was created to hold the warmth and charm of the Mediterranean far from its shores, a home that felt timeless, inviting, and made for gathering. When the architect invited the family to name it, they chose "Adria" after the Adriatic Sea, a quiet tribute to their heritage and the guiding spirit behind the design. Brought to life with Hyer Homes, a custom builder of more than 30 years, the project saw our studio shape the design concept and guide it through every stage of the build.

Warmth, Layered and Collected

The palette was chosen to feel warm, moody, and timeless. Rich wood tones sit alongside painted cabinetry and v-groove detailing, giving the home a curated, collected feel with a sense of history rather than something newly finished. The cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the Azul tones in the tile and reinforces the Mediterranean look at heart of the home.

A Handmade Heart


In the kitchen, the backsplash comes alive with Dali Azul from the Amano Collection. A handmade ceramic tile, it brings a delicate blue pattern and the gentle glaze variation only handmade pieces carry. These blue painted tiles set the tone for the whole space, quietly Mediterranean in feeling.  

Dali Azul continues beyond the backsplash wall, wrapping around the walls above the sink and tracing the line of the windows. The handmade pattern flows uninterrupted throughout the kitchen, echoing the Mediterranean spirit at the heart of the home.

The pantry rangehood fan is finished in Tres Azul from the same Amano Collection. A quieter detail, that seems like its always been there. Its scalloped border picks up on the handmade feel of the kitchen linking the two spaces beautifully.

The powder room floor is laid in Octagon Meknes and Dades from our Moroccan Limestone Collection, soft limestone paired with deep charcoal inserts in a classic octagon-and-dot pattern, with natural variation running through every piece. It grounds the space with the same warmth and history found throughout the rest of the home.  

The Kind of Home You Return To

Adria is a reminder that a home can carry a place and a history within it, even when an ocean away. With handmade tile at its heart and warmth in every layer, it feels timeless and lived-in, curated and collected rather than newly finished.
