Profiled | The Repose

Delve a little deeper into the beauty that is the Repose. We spoke with interior designer and creative director, Jemima Aldridge, about the story behind a humble worker's cottage turned artisan Air BnB.

A curation of the handmade and artisanal; welcome to the Repose. The brainchild of Ric & Moir Jones and Bede & Jemima Aldridge, co founders of Saddler & Co, The Repose is a charming cottage nestled peacefully in Dubbo, NSW.

The Repose was originally built c. 1904 as a humble worker's cottage in the western plains. In contrast, today it serves as a mesmerizing, artisanal accommodation offering.

Paying ode to its' origins, the team maintained the high timber ceilings and original timber flooring, rejuvenated with a white lime finish.

The Repose bathroom has been designed around the original outhouse quarters a restored claw foot bath. We are elated that Jemima selected our handmade zellige tiles to bring a tasteful amount of imperfection to the space.

It is safe to say that the Tilesofezra tribe has fallen in love with every room in the house. With an abundance of immaculate attention to detail, an awareness of the history & story of the cottage and a desire to create a true sanctuary of rest, the team behind The Repose has hit the nail on the head.

Peruse the house and you will find our Tilesofezra zellige scattered throughout the cottage.

Jemima opted for our zellige EZR1010 squares to bring quintessential charm to the bathroom and kitchen.

In terms of the style for the cottage, Jemima sought to weave elements of modern design side by side with heritage inspiration. Imperfect, artisan elements showcased next to clean, simple lines. Jemima sourced brass, linen, antiques, artisan suppliers to create a tangible experience of restrained design.

The team share a common love for the Dutch heritage that influences our concepts of cosy living. The term “gezellig” is a state of being. It is a concept that encompasses the heart of Dutch culture and sums up the cosy home atmosphere of belonging, time spent with loved ones, the general togetherness as people share in a common sense of well being.

Jemima on dealing with Tilesofezra

We were on the hunt for tiles that would tell a story, and create a sense of connection to the heritage of the cottage. We already had reclaimed European tiles for the bathroom floors, and I went searching for artisan tiles to complement the earthy, imperfect design of the Repose bathroom. We discovered Tiles of Ezra online, and immediately sensed the purpose and authenticity in this brand. Working with Tiles of Ezra was a delightful personal and seamless experience, we were grateful for such prompt service to a regional area. Amazing!
