What type of stone is used in the Dunya Stone range?
Dunya Stone is a natural stone collection, selected for its organic movement, tonal depth, and refined surface texture. It includes Travertines, Limestones & Marble.
Each tile is cut from natural stone blocks, meaning no two pieces are identical. The range celebrates the raw beauty of stone while offering a considered, design-led palette suited to both contemporary and timeless interiors.
How is Dunya Stone different from porcelain or ceramic tiles?
Unlike porcelain or ceramic tiles, Dunya Stone is a naturally formed material, not manufactured. This means it carries authentic variation in colour, veining, texture, and mineral inclusions that cannot be replicated artificially. While porcelain offers uniformity and technical predictability, Dunya Stone offers depth, warmth, and natural character, making it ideal for spaces where materiality and authenticity are prioritised.
What natural variation should I expect in colour, veining, and texture?
Variation is an inherent and defining characteristic of Dunya Stone. Expect natural shifts in tone, veining, fossil markings, and surface texture across tiles and batches. This variation is part of the stone’s authenticity and should be embraced as a design feature rather than viewed as inconsistency. For best results, we recommend ordering sufficient material from a single batch. Please review the Dunya Stone Spec Sheets in our Resources to determine the expected level of variation from stone to stone.
Are Dunya Stone tiles suitable for walls, floors, or both?
Yes. Dunya Stone is suitable for both wall and floor applications in residential settings. Its durability makes it well-suited to living areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and feature walls. Suitability for high-traffic or commercial environments should be assessed on a project-by-project basis.
Do the tiles need to be sealed before and after installation?
Yes. Dunya Stone is a porous natural material and requires sealing to protect against moisture absorption, staining, and etching. We recommend:
- Sealing prior to installation,
- Sealing again after installation and grouting, and
- Periodic resealing every 1–3 years, depending on use, traffic, and exposure.
Specific sealing products should be chosen in consultation with your installer or stone-care specialist. Please review our Resources & Installation specific FAQs for more information.
Can Dunya Stone be used in wet areas such as bathrooms or showers?
Yes, Dunya Stone can be used in wet areas when proper waterproofing systems are in place and the stone is correctly sealed and maintained. In high-moisture environments, consistent sealing and gentle cleaning practices are especially important. Gradual patina is to be expected.
Are these tiles suitable for outdoor use and pool surrounds?
While Dunya Stone itself is suitable for a range of applications, the mesh backing and adhesive used to hold the sheets together are not designed for continuous water submersion. Over time, this can compromise the bond, leading to tiles loosening or detaching.
For submerged applications such as pools, water features, or spas, tiles must be installed using methods and materials specifically suited to full immersion, as advised by your installer.
We recommend speaking with our team to select a more suitable format or product for pool applications, and ensuring your installer confirms all installation methods and materials prior to proceeding, as Tiles of Ezra cannot take responsibility for installation outcomes or unsuitable product selection.
Dunya Stone is suitable for outdoor use and pool surrounds in applications that do not involve constant water submersion.
Dunya Stone is not recommended for freeze–thaw environments unless specifically designed and detailed for those conditions. Always consult a qualified installer when specifying natural stone externally.
How do I clean and care for Dunya Stone to avoid etching or staining?
To preserve the beauty of Dunya Stone:
- Use pH-neutral cleaners formulated for natural stone.
- Avoid acidic, abrasive, or bleach-based products that can etch or dull the surface.
- Wipe spills promptly, especially acidic or coloured liquids.
- Maintain an ongoing sealing schedule.
With proper care, Dunya Stone will age gracefully and develop a natural patina over time.
Do you offer different finishes (honed, tumbled, brushed, etc.) in the Dunya Stone range?
No, all Dunya Stone products feature a tumbled finish only.
Does natural stone require special adhesives or installation practices?
Yes. Natural stone such as Dunya Stone requires specialised installation practices compared to ceramic or porcelain tiles. Because stone is heavier, more porous, and naturally variable, it should be installed using adhesives and mortars specifically formulated for natural stone, selected based on the substrate, tile thickness, and application.
Proper substrate preparation, correct trowel sizing, full adhesive coverage, appropriate waterproofing in wet areas, and careful handling during installation are essential. We strongly recommend working with an experienced installer familiar with natural stone to ensure the best long-term performance and appearance.
Can I order samples of Dunya Stone?
Yes, Tiles of Ezra offers sample tiles for most Dunya Stone colours and finishes so you can see how the colour, tone and texture look in your own space before committing to full-size orders. You can request samples directly here
Can I mix batches of Dunya Stone?
Dunya Stone is a natural material formed by the earth, and variation in tone, movement and surface character is an inherent and celebrated feature of the range. Because of this natural variation, mixing batches is generally suitable and can still result in a cohesive installation.
However, as with all natural stone, slight tonal differences may occur between productions. We recommend dry-laying and blending tiles from multiple pallets or batches prior to installation to ensure a balanced distribution of variation.
If your project requires a highly controlled or uniform appearance, please speak with our team before ordering so we can advise accordingly.
