Amano Handpainted Tiles

Our Amano Basics collection brings together the foundational designs from the Amano range, a series of handpainted ceramic tiles that draw on centuries of European decorative tilework and reinterpret those traditions through original Tiles of Ezra designs. Each tile is handcrafted and finished by skilled artisans, with richly layered glazes that give the painted detail a depth and texture that printed tiles can’t replicate.

The collection works predominantly in two palettes. The Azul design pairs a warm off-white ceramic ground with hand-applied cobalt brushwork, a colour combination that has defined decorative tilework across Portugal and the Mediterranean for centuries. Designs like Cascais and Fado bring a more geometric, repeating quality to that tradition, while Antiguo takes a more illustrative approach with figurative motifs painted across individual tiles. The Choc designs follow a similar format but in a warmer, earthy brown that sits comfortably in more neutral or natural material schemes. For those building out a broader handmade palette, our cream Zellige tile collection pairs well with the softer Amano tones.

Amano Basics work particularly well as decorative accents in bathrooms, kitchens, and fireplaces, where individual tiles or small groupings can be mixed within a larger field without needing to commit to a full patterned wall. Our natural stone tiles and limestone flooring tiles provide a calm, textural counterpoint to Amano’s painted surfaces, while our handmade Moroccan Zellige tiles and Moroccan Zellige basics offer a different kind of handmade character for those working across mixed material schemes.
