Amano Borders

Our Amano Borders collection brings the handpainted character of the Amano range into a format specifically designed for framing, definition, and detail work within a larger tile scheme. Each border tile is individually hand painted and glazed by skilled artisans, with the same richly layered finish that runs across the broader Amano collection. The shaped profiles of several designs, including the scalloped edges of the Tres and the arched form of the Flor, give the borders a sculptural quality that goes beyond a simple decorative strip. 

The collection works across the same two palettes as Amano Basics. The Azul designs use hand-applied cobalt brushwork on a warm off-white ground, with motifs ranging from the fan detail of Lace Azul through to the tulip and floral patterns of Flor Azul and Tulip Azul. The Choc designs carry the same format in a warmer earthy brown that works particularly well within neutral or natural material schemes. Used alongside our Amano Basics collection, the borders can frame a field installation, define the edge of a shower recess, or add a finishing detail to a kitchen or bathroom wall.

Border tiles are most effective when the materials that surround them are relatively plain, giving the handpainted detail more prominence. Our natural stone tiles and limestone flooring tiles provide that understated base, and our cream Zellige tile range works well alongside the softer Amano tones in mixed-material schemes. For those building out a broader handmade palette, our handmade Moroccan Zellige tiles and Moroccan Zellige basics share a similar artisanal accent, while our Zellige tile designs and glass tiles for mosaics offer additional versatility for those wanting to explore pattern and texture across different materials.
